Happy Labor Day!  This might be a holiday we don’t think much of. Most of us probably see it as just a good way to get a long weekend.  I welcome you to take a minute and appreciate what it really is about.  This holiday celebrates the many contributions that workers across America give to building the success and well-being of the country.  As art pros, we should take ownership of the reason for this holiday, and celebrate the passion we all have for this work.

Check out this edition’s articles section and find out about colleagues from different types of collections.  From the keepers who manage living collections in hurricane zones to new facilities in New Mexico, there are many ways to take a role in collections care.  Also, take a look at Betsy Reed’s view on the British Museum scandal.  She has an interesting perspective on responsible stewardship in the 21st century.

Speaking of taking ownership, the issue has resources to help you branch out and learn about all the work happening in our community.  From podcasts to research guides, there are so many resources out there for all levels and areas of the industry.  Your work can only get better the more open you are to learning about others.  Take a second and look at other strategies in our world.

Finally, I hope if you are looking for a new job you will take some time to check out our opportunities.  There are so many roles out there that lead to a career as an art pro.  From non-profit to for-profit, searching for your best fit is a neverending process.  Whatever you’re doing right now, remember to celebrate yourself this Labor Day.  Thanks for all you do aspire to accomplish.
