In this edition of the APN Wire:

Power to the people!  The new year is only weeks away, and it looks like there is hope on the horizon that 2021 will bring a push in the right direction.  The changes in our community this year will have repercussions well beyond the COVID shutdown, and we need to start planning on how to recover.  In this issue, I focus on information about the people that keep our industry afloat and how valuing and caring for them more in future planning is going to make or break our survival.

Check out the Bucket List section and podcast to learn about future planning tips and professional development.  There will be a need to bring back staff when we reopen, and their loyalty will be important to retaining the surviving talent in our organizations. Professional development and growth opportunities could contribute greatly to people feeling incentivized to stay.  We need to create policies that support them and plans that care for them.

Finally, in our resources section, there is a link to the AIC publication dedicated to the safety and well being of staff.  Check it out and make putting people first the goal in your strategic planning. It will be important to prioritize caring for the well being of your staff in decisions for the coming year.

Whatever you do as an art pro, know your worth, and don’t be afraid to consider new opportunities.  If this last year has taught us anything, it is that life is too short to stay in a place where we are unhappy.  Know what you need, how to get it, and how to ask for it.  Be well and be hopeful!
