In this edition of the APN Wire:If I had to pick a theme for this issue it would be SPEAK UP! I think that it has become imperative that our community come out of the shadows and advocate for ourselves and our work…and each other! This edition of the APN Wire is full of fantastic examples of people I truly respect in our community that are talking about all sorts of things that might have gone unnoticed in the past. I hope that you find inspiration from them to lend your unique voice to the conversation.
First, don’t miss the awesome comment coming from two fantastic art pros. Matt Isble from Museum Trade has some thoughts that should really stick with you. His new summer series will help you with exhibition challenges and is super fun to watch. And speaking of interesting and fun to watch, all you need is 5 minutes to learn something new with Yadin Larochette and TruVue. Her Take 5 videos are so unique and interesting I find myself taking a break to watch them.
If you are looking for ways to find your voice as a contract art pro, check out the current and upcoming sessions ARCS has in store. Their new initiatives involving contractors in our field are going to contribute significantly as our industry evolves and pivots. Contractors are going to become vital to the way we function as institutions, and having a structured approach can really help us both now and in the future.
Finally, check out my latest podcast about staff retention and appreciation. I hope it helps those of you manage art pros and those of you who are looking for what you want in a role. Think about what you need to make your job worth keeping and advocate for yourself. If you are a manager it is time to seriously consider how you value your staff and show your appreciation. Making it sincere, specific, and escalating will help you grow your department’s commitment and skill as well as give them a reason to keep giving to your mission.
Without our voices and contributions, this industry will not succeed and persist. If I can help you find your voice, and figure out what would make level up your art pro life, please reach out and connect with me. We need to consider our whole community and trade in the silos for strategic partnerships. Be well!
