In this edition of the APN Wire:

Well, the last couple of weeks have been a rough time in not only the art pro community but the whole country.  We have seen museums hang up the CLOSED sign because of the government shutdown….See the Washington Post article below about how art pros at the National Gallery will have to work anyway to deinstall an exhibition that needs to come down.  Also, check out the article from The Art Newspaper that looks at the changing labor relations happening with art pros around the country. This year looks to be one of new organizations and structures for art pros everywhere.

To go along with the uncertainty, this is one of the biggest times of year when people try new things and look for new opportunities. What’s our new big thing?  APN has started its new podcast, and we hope everyone will check it out at our site.  We are looking for guests and topics, so email us today if you would like to be involved or have something you would like to hear about.

We also have lots of opportunities for paid internships and fellowships in this weeks newsletter to help you find ways to start on new career paths.  Internships can be a great way to try a career path and get real-world experience and a foot in the door.

Finally, with all this upheaval, I think it is truly important that we find ways to meet and support each other.  Please consider coming to the California Association of Museums conference next month.  Find ways to reach out and connect with your peers.  Networking can be one of the biggest ways to find out where you are needed and where you want to be.  Come see APN at our CAM Expo table!  We hope we get to see you, and we hope January brings everyone lots of new opportunities!
