Do you have a summer reading list? If you are like me, it is probably full of trashy romance and daring adventure. As a kid, I always had a list of books to read during the summer…I am just thankful that I was allowed to balance Upton Sinclair with Robert Jordan. No matter what though, I now associate the warming of the weather with the need to crack open a cover and find myself in another place. I hope that you will find some inspiration in this edition of The Wire to take a look and find time to get lost in a new idea or a tale of old.
Speaking of harrowing adventures, take a look at Art Can Kill in the Resource section. The whole list is about books that can help and entertain, and Bryan Cooke of Cooke’s Crating does not disappoint. He tells tales all of us art pros can relate to and some that seem almost too wild to be true. There are also some great new books out about collections care and exhibitions conservation. Building your work library can be a challenge, but there are some great new reads out there to find.
The articles section of this edition is also full of pages of troubles and scandals. With the practice of publishing come all sorts of pitfalls, and learning from others is a great way to understand where they are. Find out about some of the rights precedents decided by the courts this year and folks fighting against plagiarism in our industry. We have to be careful that we not only appreciate other talents but give them credit as well.
Whatever you are reading this summer, from scandalous tell-alls to this very newsletter, I hope it is adding value to your process. Also, please let me know if you are an author and have something to share. I am always here to help add new perspectives to the conversation.
