Let’s get back to basics this summer!  This edition of the APN Wire is all about those standards and best practices art pros need to figure out.  What are you working on?  An acredidation? A collections survey?  Sometimes, the best way to start is by checking the basics.

This issues resources are a great place to start if you are looking for some help building out your processes and policies.  There is no reason to reinvent the wheel, from documenting your collection to digitizing them.  If you are looking for some guidance on how to bring your practices into alignment with industry standards check out sites from Atla, AAM, and re:source.  Also, I highly recommend checking out articles from art pros like Joy Tahan Ruddell.  She has been working with collections for years and can add some extraordinary context to your workflow.

If you are working on more institution-wide policies, take a minute to look at the article from National Geographic.  I think we all fear the possibility of becoming a target, and this article has some interesting perspectives on each side.  There are also articles from all over the community about how folks are renovating their plans both inside and out. Whether you are adjusting to the new climate we live in or doing better because you know better, there is always room for improvement.

I hope this summer brings positive change for everyone.  It is never a bad time to make things better.  I hope APN can help you do that.  Reach out today if I can be a resource and add value to your search.
