What is bugging you this year?!? This issue is dedicated to the creepy, crawly critters and all we do as art pros to keep them at bay. With a new year comes a renewed effort of the evergreen processes that we all manage. One of the biggest ones is Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and I am hoping that this edition of the wire helps you get a handle on your plan to trap, track, and eradicate the heritage eaters that threaten your collection.
Start by listening to my first podcast of the season. I share tips, tricks and lessons learned that I hope will lead you to an IPM that tackles your challenges both inside and outside of your spaces. Remember, there is no small infestation, and the goal is for you to have the most uneventful, boring, regular pest reports imaginable. If you don’t really love data collection, find ways to make IPM more interesting by breaking it into projects and research opportunities.
Speaking of opportunities, the search is on for tons of positions in our community. I am still on the hunt for art handlers in the Bay Area interested in working with a top conservation studio. I am also shamelessly posting some positions for my team at the Lucas Museum, here in LA. If you are interested in working with a wonderful and innovative group of collection professionals, please apply.
Finally, don’t miss the Resource section and the upcoming deadlines. California Association of Museums is having its conference in Oakland this year. I hope everyone will consider going, and the deadline for scholarships is coming up. Also, check out all the entomological resources to help you figure out what really is bugging you.
If you need any help with your next steps in any avenue of being an art pro, reach out today. I am here to help with everything from IPM to resumes. I would love to connect with you and a value to your process.
